2019 Edge: The All-New SUV from Ford

The Edge is what you would get if you placed an engine that pulls trucks into a crossover SUV. Its all about raw power and sporty performance. The 2019 Edge ST is the first SUV from Ford Performance, a division that deals with its motor sport vehicles. This 5-seater performer comes both in FWD and available AWD variants and has choices of two turbocharged engine types and 4 different trims – the SE, SEL, Titanium and the ST that’s configured by its Performance team. Escondido Ford dealer gave us a quick walk through of the 2019 Edge – the all-new SUV from Ford.

Enticing Exterior Looks

The 2019 Edge surely holds the edge when it comes to modern design. The bold sculpted design instills confidence and readiness to be put to test on the rugged path. The immediately visible features on the exterior comprise the bright grille, black beltline molding, a black lower cladding and a body-color rear spoiler. On closer observation you will find the dual exhaust tips on the rear that are covered in brushed stainless steel. Auto high beam head-lamps, auto on/off headlights, rain-sensitive front windshield wipers are standard. LED Tail lamps and LED daytime running lights are also standard. LED signature Daytime Running lamps start on the higher trims. Wheels start with 18″ Aluminum Painted Sparkle Silver to 20″Premium Gloss Black-Painted Aluminum with various other aluminum and nickel-plated options in between.

Premium Interiors

The spacious interiors of the 2019 Edge is crafted for comfort and convenience and has some amazing tech features such as the Ford-Copilot 360 which provides a set of handy and innovative driver assist features, FordPass Connect App to connect with your vehicle using your smartphone to perform various functions and advanced safety features such as the Post-Collision Braking system that can reduce impact in case of a crash. Climate control and a cabin particulate air filter is part of the standard offering, but things get extremely high-tech and interesting from the Titanium which provides a Wireless Charging Pad and a B&O premium audio system from Bang & Olufsen that provides some immersive entertainment options. The sport ready ST comes with a push to launch intelligent shift selector. In the ST you are also looking at Ambient Lighting, Leather-wrapped steering with mounted controls, push-button start, Aluminum covered brake and accelerator pedals and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) on the safety side. Seating is leather trimmed with Miko insets.

Power-Packed Performer

All trims other than the formidable ST come with a power-packed Twin-Scroll 2.0L EcoBoost® Engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology mated to an Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission on a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system. The ST showcased at Escondido Ford comes pre-fit with a 2.7L V6 EcoBoost® Engine that delivers 335 hp and 380 lb.-ft. of torque on an intelligent All Wheel Drive (AWD) system with AWD-Disconnect that can help proper the vehicle using only the front wheels at times when you want to save fuel. The expert treatment on the ST is demonstrated by the Performance Tuned Suspension which lowers the center of gravity, providing better steering control.
